Where to Purchase Herbs
Places To Purchase Dried Herbs:
When using herbs, you want to purchase or wildcraft good quality plant material. Here are some options to obtain herbs that I highly recommend.
- Mountain Rose Herbs- they carry a very large selection of dried herbs, essential oils, and tinctures. They really strive for high quality plant material, so they are usually my top resource for herbs.
- Starwest Botanicals- they also carry a large selection of dried herbs and medicine making supplies. I prefer Mountain Rose Herbs quality wise but I use Starwest when the other is out of stock of certain items.
- Local herb farms- these are always the best option to source plant material as they are more sustainable and often have amazing quality herbs.
- Local natural food stores like Whole Foods or food Co-ops
- Grocery stores- usually poorer quality, but sometimes can find fresh herbs.
Places To Source Fresh Herbs:
Obtaining fresh herbs is a bit trickier than dried herbs. Here are some places to start.
- Strictly Medicinals- they sometimes carry fresh herbs
- Local herb farms- these are your best option for obtaining fresh herbs.
- Local natural food stores like Whole Foods or food Co-ops will carry culinary herbs like Basil
- Grocery stores- you can often find fresh culinary herbs in your regular grocery store as well.
Places To Source Seeds:
- Richters- they’re in Canada but ship to the US pretty cheaply and carry a large array of seeds and live plant starts at a reasonable price.
- Strictly Medicinals- they’re located in the western US and carry a ton of medicinal herb seeds and plant starts. They are a bit pricier, but you can’t beat their quality and knowledge.
- Mountain Rose Herbs- they carry good quality seeds, but not a ton of varieties.
- Fedco- they're located in Maine and specialize in cold weather strains. They primarily carry vegetable crops but do have a decent selection of seeds.
Sometimes I make herbs I grow on my farm available to the public, especially for clients and students. Feel free to reach out to inquire.
